In response to heightened awareness and need for planning, Music Together of Charlotte has consulted with the Rec. Center staff to create a safety plan. 

*The main door is locked and you families have to be "buzzed" in. An employee will be availble to let families in.

*The doors from the foyer into our classroom (entry door and ‘kitchen’ door) will be locked at all times. 

*Please assist families when they are at the door.

*Your teacher has a key to all doors in the building.

*The storage closet door will be slightly ajar during class*

*There is a walkie talkie in the room for communication during an emergency.

*If there is an intruder in the school, we will be notified over the intercom, with ‘lockdown’ being stated 3 times.

*If there is an intruder in the rec center, communication will come over the walkie talkie.

*We can shelter in the closet where drums are kept – it has been cleared out – or use the closet as a pass-through to the side exit door or big storage space (the pit) in the

rear of the bldg.  

*If the only choice is to fight/hide – we will turn off lights and barricade the door. If barricading, put all your force on the equipment that is stopping the intruder to come in. Per the police: this will frustrate an intruder and move on.

*The evacuation map is posted in our classroom. The MT classroom is Meeting Room 1, the large room on the other side is MP1.
